July 20th, 2008

Last week I was on Yahoo and saw an article about a player that streams 10,000+ movies and tv shows straight to your tv. I thought it sounded pretty cool but the more I thought about it I started to get myself really hyped up about it, so just a few hours after reading the article I jumped on their website and bought one and had it shipped 2-day.

It came on Friday and I had taken the afternoon off so I rushed home and hooked it up. It was amazingly easy to set up and works with your wireless network. It’s pretty much plug it in and go. It recieves movies and tv shows from Netflix, so I had to get a $8.99 month account but still if you think about it - just renting two movies from Blockbuster a month and you’ve already covered your costs.

It retrieves the movies from your instant cue nearly instantly and it usually doesn’t take more than 30 seconds for a show to start playing. The quality is between VHS and DVD and better than I even expected. The best part of the whole thing. The box only costs $100.

It’s already been put to good use, last night Kenny and I were at a festival and somehow the conversation about mannequins came up and all of a sudden I remembered that really cheesy 80’s movie called “Mannequin” and how much I used to love it. So first thing we did when we got back was jump on Netflix and sent it to the Roku player. Within a minute we were watching Mannequin in all it’s cheesy goodness.

Just wanted to pass this along to you guys - one of the best inventions ever in my opinion!!
